Christ Church Grammar School (CCGS) is seeking an innovative and inspiring educational leader to take on the newly created position of Head of Learning - Curriculum and Pedagogy. This pivotal leadership role is responsible for driving high-quality teaching and learning across the School, embedding evidence-informed instructional practice and leading curriculum design, assessment and reporting from ELC to Year 6. The successful candidate will provide both strategic vision and hands-on support to ensure that every child at CCGS benefits from a rigorous, inclusive and future-focused education.

Key Responsibilities:

Working in close collaboration with the Principal, Deputy Principal, and other key leaders, the Head of Learning - Curriculum and Pedagogy will:

Provide leadership in pedagogy, curriculum development, assessment and reporting.

Build teacher capacity through coaching, mentoring and professional learning.

Lead curriculum review processes to ensure academic rigour, relevance and innovation.

Embed frameworks that strengthen teacher practice and improve student outcomes.

Oversee teaching and learning programs to ensure alignment with School values, ethos and strategic goals.

Maintain a 0.4 FTE teaching load, including whole-class instruction, small-group tuition, modelling best practice, assessment and leading events such as assemblies.

About You

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

Proven success in curriculum and pedagogical leadership (ELC – Year 6).

Strong instructional leadership capacity, with expertise in explicit instruction and inquiry-based learning.

Deep knowledge of curriculum frameworks (Australian Curriculum, VEYLDF, VCAA) and assessment practices.

Capacity to lead whole-school improvement initiatives and manage change effectively.

A coaching mindset with a track record of mentoring, supporting and developing teaching teams.

Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with staff, students, families and the broader community.

A commitment to the values of CCGS: Respect, Integrity, Courage and Empathy.

Qualifications and Experience:

Tertiary teaching qualification with full VIT registration.

Educational studies at the Master’s level is preferred (or willingness to undertake such studies). 

Demonstrated success in curriculum and pedagogical leadership roles within an ELC - Year 6 setting.

Proven experience in leading and coaching teams of educators, including mentoring, professional learning facilitation and supporting whole-school instructional improvement.

Extensive knowledge of contemporary pedagogical approaches, curriculum design and effective differentiation to meet the needs of diverse learners, including extension and support programs.

High-quality experience in designing, implementing and evaluating curriculum across multiple year levels (ELC–Year 6), with evidence of improving student outcomes.

Familiarity with assessment design, rubrics and contemporary reporting approaches.

A track record of building high-performing teams and improving student outcomes.

Demonstrated understanding of culturally responsive teaching practices, including EAL, First Nations perspectives, and the inclusion of students from diverse backgrounds.

Proven experience in developing assessment frameworks, rubrics and continuous reporting approaches that provide meaningful feedback and support student growth with a view to also incorporate student agency.

Knowledge of inclusive practices, behaviour support strategies, and relevant regulatory frameworks to guide curriculum planning and teaching practice.

Educational Leadership

Demonstrated ability to lead curriculum and pedagogy across ELC - Year 6, with a strong understanding of evidence-informed teaching practices, including explicit instruction and inquiry-based learning.

Proven capacity to foster a collaborative, professional culture - inspiring, influencing and supporting colleagues in achieving high standards of practice whilst also balancing staff performance growth, accountability and conflict resolution.

Staff Development and Instructional Practice

Ability to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and reflective practice.

Experience in leading instructional practice and embedding frameworks that build instructional expertise across teams.

Proven capacity to mentor, coach and provide professional learning that directly impacts classroom practice and improves student outcomes.

Curriculum, Assessment, and Reporting Expertise

Strong knowledge of national and state curriculum frameworks (Australian Curriculum, VEYDLF, VCAA), supporting the capacity to design, implement and evaluate curriculum and assessment initiatives that enhance student learning and agency, wellbeing and engagement.

Demonstrated experience in developing and leading authentic and purposeful reporting approaches where students and parents know what has been achieved and ‘where to next’.

Strategic and Organisational Skills

Evidence of leading whole-school improvement initiatives and managing change effectively.

High-level organisational, analytical and project management skills.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills

Highly developed written, oral and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, parents and the wider community.

Demonstrated ability to build trust and foster strong professional relationships.
